two of us, flipping through a thrift store magazine.

it seems to me, as i look back on my recent posts, that i write about recommendations and wants and desires and, it's just terribly greedy of me. plus, who has the money to obtain all of these things that i need oh so badly? i am really not such a superficial brand-yielding fashionista, not that there is anything wrong with that - but i really can't justify it. i am a huge lover of the Salvation Army, Value Village, and all of my local thrift stores. plus, i frequent H&M and Forever 21 frequently. i have splurged on a few items in my day but, i also have a keen eye for treasures amid junk. such as my 3.1 phillip lim dress that i found in a consignment store the other day. i am guessing it is about 3 years old, maybe worn once, and it fits like phillip himself made it just for me. plus it's a size 2.. and i never fit into a size 2! can you say confidence booster? the reason for this post is to assure readers that i don't want to put so much emphasis on what is new and trendy, but instead, what you feel good in, what you find when you aren't looking, and what doesn't cost you your entire year's salary. look in your parent's closets.. an old tee that your dad has worn out may look fab with a body con skirt and some mocassins. i always admire my grandma's style. she doesn't treat herself to shopping very often, and wears blouses and a-line skirts that she has had in her wardrobe for years, even decades. but she always looks polished and classy, and hasn't spent very much money doing so.

here is to looking chic, on the cheap!

ANGLOPHILIA?

i have found my new online retail obsession. ASOS is the UK's largest independant retailer, and now occupies the largest amount of love in my fashion-loving heart. ASOS carries high-fashion brands such as acne, twenty8twelve by sienna miller & henry holland for levis, as well as their own labels for men & women. these items (found on www.ASOS.com and part of their own line) are reasonable, ranging from about $30 to $100 CDN, and obtainable with the click of a button and the swipe of some plastic. plus they offer direct and express shipping, for those lastminuteeventsthatyoucouldn'tfindtheperfectoutfitforuntilyouwenttoasosonline. amaze!

i want, i want, i want!

i can never find 'off the shoulder' sweatshirts that fit me properly, this one looks like it would. plus i'm VERY into coral right now. check out www.80spurple.com... this online retailer offers so many unique brands including charlotte ronson - one of my favorites - at reasonable pricing. it isn't holts but it isn't necessarily cheap either. just middle of the road when you are looking for something different and fun! and so appropriately, i've added the tiesto ft. tegan and sara - feel it in my bones music video. i saw t & s live last year... they make me happy.

Strut for a Cure

i'm going to try my best to get a ticket to this event.. what an amazing experience for an amazing cause. and to see coco rocha on the runway! the tickets are only $95 so i would encourage others with a little extra pocket change to check out the website and consider buying your way into what looks like an exciting night!

and a belated happy earth day!

i'm a huge fan of h & m. whether i'm looking for a dress to wear out on the town, or basics such as t-shirts or tanks, they always have what i'm looking for. so when i heard about the eco-friendly garden collection, i had to check it out. the fabrics are deliciously soft, and come in an array of patterns and colours. the collection boasts a variety of pieces, ranging from khaki shorts, to billowy tops and chiffon dresses. i love how h & m supports green living, while being affordable and accessible. now there are no more excuses to ignore the ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY MOVEMENT!

MUST-HAVES!

TRENDING UPDATES A LA WHOWHATWEAR.COM

(Clockwise from Top L):

1. ROUND SUNNIES - I own a pair of round Chanel shades (as seen on the Olsen's) but there are cheaper options. I just ordered a pair of circular frames from Urban Outfitters in the $5 or less sale (thank you BryanBoy!)... and they are easy to find at Forever21 or your local thrift shop.

2. WOODEN PLATFORMS AVEC DARK COLOURED TIGHTS - Two of my favorite pieces paired together = love. I have quite a few pairs of wooden platforms, mainly by Aldo & Betsey Johnson. Alexa Chung (pictured) wore her dark nylons with platforms by Marni (F/W '08). Any wooden platforms are acceptable, but clogs (see post below) are the shoe of choice for summer 2010.

3. BOUDOIR JACKET WITH JEANS AND SIMPLE T-SHIRT - Love this. I just acquired a lacy/crinoline floor length robe at a vintage clothing store in Victoria.. thought I could (potentially) wear it with jean cut-offs in the summer with a simple tank or white tee. I love the bedwear/streetwear crossover, and think that wearing a silk robe over a simple dress is chic. Avoid wearing the robe you put on immediately after a shower.. or the flannel pj's you received as a christmas present. But otherwise, get wild and try something new! You never know what the feedback will be.

4. FEMININE PIECES IN OLIVE GREEN TONES - VOGUE did a spread on it (in march), and the runways were filled with it (s/s' 10): military-inspired styling. I do enjoy some of the pieces i saw, but as who what wear writes, "that doesn't mean you have to interpret this trend uber-literally." Sometimes trying out the military trend results in a more masculine, heavy look. They have pictured this feminine dress by Chloe, but I like Topshop Boutique's Cashmere Dress. long, comfortable, sofe and slinky! and speaking of which, TOPSHOP NOW SHIPS TO CANADA! kgbksjfhskdfjshdk! I know what I am going to spend my bonus on...

5. STYLE HAIR IN A HIGH-UP TOPKNOT - Although this is my favorite suggestion out of the 6 styling tips, i can no longer do my hair in a buddha-bun due to its short length . It's such an easy way to get hair out of your face, plus - pulling your mop back actually thins your face. who what wear suggests using gel by bumble and bumble, but i prefer leaving a bun au naturel, letting wisps and imperfections happen.

6. TRANSITION FROM DARK DENIM TO MID-BLUE HUES - Fairly self-explanitory. Try a demim button-up (H & M has a bunch) under a leather jacket. I, for one, can't wait to start wearing my denim cut-offs & fringy moccasins. Spring is here, folks!

i can't wait to dive head first into next month's edition. i lav sjp. my two cents: i wish they had put her in something more risqué for the cover shot. and that she didn't have her mole removed. that is all.

DUSSAULT APPAREL

photos courtesy of Dussault Apparel's Facebook Fan Page

vancouver-based dussault apparel is known for its unique, gritty designs at a premium cost. although it is not necessarily my style, i thought the show was entertaining and the styling was beyond ordinary. jason dussault went with a horror theme, seeing as the male models came out carrying bloody weapons, and the women appeared in nothing but t-shirts (except the lone model wearing a bloodied bikini). at one point, 6 of the female models marched in 2 rows down the runway, wearing aviators & army helmets labelled "BARWATCH" - a dig at the banning of their label at vancouver clubs and lounges.

jeremy laing

fellow canadian jeremy laing's a/w '10 collection is by far one of my top favorites of the season. as an apprentice of (the late) lee alexander mcqueen, laing developed his own individual spin on design, creating geometric, innovative patterns. his use of fabrics eg. leather and fur, is incredible. i would give my left arm for the fourth ensemble pictured. looks like the model did too.

i want, i want, i want

people who know me personally are aware of my love for jumpsuits/playsuits/rompers and the like. i adore the simplicity of throwing on one item that has so much character! easy but eye-catching. i discovered this picture on hanneli mustaparta's website this morning... chloé makes this amazing one-piece and i have to say, there are so many good things happening here. i'm always a fan of sleeves and a good strong collar, the colour is a classic nude, and the design and structure is so
flattering. simple but chic! i am in love.

this hippie-esque sheath from diane von fursenberg's spring collection is just up my alley. love the florals and the unexpected gathering of fabric. i see myself wearing it with some beat up leather loafers or fringy sandals.
